紐約宣布“無肉星期一”試點計劃，對抗全球暖化和兒童肥胖症

本周一，市長 Bill de Blasio 及教育局長 Carmen Fariña，與身為純素食者的布魯克林區區長Eric Adams，一起宣布，在布魯克林區15所學校開展無肉星期一的活動。這些學校會在每周一為7500多位學生準備素食早餐和午餐。餐單包括美味可口的炸豆腐，黑豆酥餅，還有烤鷹嘴豆塔吉。
今年，將會有超過30萬份素食餐被食用。這不僅能夠拯救數不清的農場動物，將他們從充滿血腥暴力的工業化養殖場中救出，還能夠給孩子們建立一套健康、人道、環保的飲食習慣。
學生們自己也為了該項目的啓動奔走。現在，該項目將要擴張到全美國最大的學校區域，每天為100萬兒童服務。
當天的新聞發布會，在PS1的院子中舉辦——這是紐約5個每天為學生提供素食午餐的其中1個學校。
“我們知道，氣候變化以及孩子們的體重都需要得到改善，”市長說。“而這兩個問題都能夠通過植物飲食被有效地解決。”市長自己，還有他的家人，以及他的同事，都會在未來的星期一吃素。
“我們將會永遠記住這一天，這不僅是布魯克林區的未來方向，也不僅是紐約市，而是整個美國，以至于整個世界，”布魯克林區區長Eric Adams評價道。
沒錯，Adams是純素食者，他在兩年前用素食治好了他的二型糖尿病症。
現在，全美國已經有超過50個校區實行無肉星期一，並且學校裏面的純素食選項也越來越受到歡迎。今年早些時候，洛杉矶聯合校區出台了一個純素食的項目，旨在給學生們提供更多的純素食午餐選擇。
動物養殖業不僅每年折磨數百億動物；動物農業還是溫室氣體排放、棲息地遺失、心髒病等健康問題的罪魁禍首。MFA憫惜動物由衷地為紐約市政府作出的決定鼓掌，因為純植物飲食的確是解決這些問題的最有效方法。

Brooklyn school kids, meet Meatless Mondays.
Fifteen public schools in the borough will ditch meat on their Monday menus starting this spring, Mayor de Blasio announced during a visit to P.S. 1 in Sunset Park.
And what's good for the students is good for the mayor, he said.
“At Gracie Mansion we are now going to be instituting Meatless Mondays as well – and that will be for our family meals and for the events we have at Gracie Mansion and when we have guests over for dinner,” de Blasio said.

De Blasio noted that while he does eat meat, his children, Chiara and Dante, are “strict vegetarians” and have been since middle school. And the school de Blasio visited is already way ahead of the curve – it is one of five schools in the city serving vegetarian lunches every day of the week.
“I am very proud of all the students, I'm proud of everyone here for their decision,” de Blasio said. “They made a decision based on their own experience and their own values that they wanted to live healthier and they wanted to do something that they thought would be good for the earth as well.”

In the lunchroom, kids enthusiastically greeted the mayor while digging in to a school lunch meal of bagels with toasted cheese and tomato and sides of potato wedges. De Blasio said he took a poll of their favorite veggies and was surprised to find that broccoli came out on top.
“Even if you had a bacon egg and cheese this morning, you still should want to see more and more of our diets go to a plant-based approach,” de Blasio said, citing benefits to the environment. “It's good for everyone.”
De Blasio unveils plan to improve traffic
Borough President Eric Adams – who de Blasio noted is a bit more svelte than he has been in the past – had plenty to say about the benefits of healthy eating, both to himself and to the wider world. He recalled being technically blind in April of last year due to complications of diabetes – conditions that reversed themselves when he started eating better and getting fit.
“We are digging our graves with our knives and forks,” he said, but food can also be the cure.

賽車手將F1美國大獎賽金牌歸功于純素食

據報道，英國賽車手劉易斯·漢密爾頓（Lewis Hamilton）將他最近在F1美國大獎賽（ United States Grand Prix ：是自1908年開始舉辦的一項汽車賽事）的獲勝歸功于純素食飲食。他還堅信，純素食會幫助他贏得第四個一級方程式(Formula One)賽車冠軍。
這位賽車手相信，他于這季的成功，源自于他改善了的健康——在過去的兩個月裏，他一直過著純素食的生活。
在采訪中，漢密爾頓說：
我的身體和精神狀態都從所未有得好。這一整年來我的心態都十分好，但是直到我這段時間轉變飲食以來，我的體格才有了很大的進步。我做過的最好的決定當然是加入現在的團隊；當然第二各最好的決定，就是轉變我的飲食。
之前在漢密爾頓參加F1新加坡大獎賽的時候，他的純素食激發了許多的質疑，但是當他成功地在參與的4個比賽中奪取3個冠軍和1個亞軍，他向大家證明了純素食的益處。
純素食飲食不僅是改善健康的最佳方法。研究人員也發現，純植物飲食能夠降低患癌、心髒病、糖尿病，及肥胖症的幾率。有許多人還認為吃素能夠幫助提升專注力和毅力。更好的是，梅奧醫學中心的科研人員發現，長期的素食者比雜食者要長壽3.6年。
其實不僅是漢密爾頓，還有一大堆的素食運動員。
植物性飲食不僅改善健康，還能夠保護地球，並且拯救許許多多的農場動物。
豬，牛，雞等生活在工業化養殖場的動物，都被如同物體般被對待。他們短暫的生命承載了人們難以想象的悲哀與痛苦。他們需要被迫關押在狹小極端的牢籠內，需要忍受沒有止痛麻醉的身體殘害，還有逃不過的血腥的死亡。
